As an artist and illustrator, Katie Barnes is concerned with the image. In her work she aims to document – or represent – the world which surrounds us, more often than not in two-dimensional forms. Primarily concerned with landscapes, she is currently interested in maps – specifically pocket street maps for tourists – and she has been exploring these through paper cut-outs. This particular work takes the practical map and transforms it into an impractical, yet beautiful and intricate piece of artwork. Fascinated by observing environments and recording what she sees, she investigates cut-outs as a form of drawing and illustration.

Katie prefers to work with paint, ink, paper and photography. Predominantly illustrative, her work ranges from small scale illustration to that of a fine art standard. She has exhibited within Manchester Metropolitan University, as part of the Creative Transit collective at Cavendish Bar, Manchester, and also on the online gallery; Little Strokes. http://littlestrokesgallery.com/

As well as her own practise, Katie enjoys writing about and reviewing other artists’ work. Many of her articles are published in the independent newspaper, The Hare.http://www.theharenewspaper.co.uk/
